Research

Dr. Schmidt is currently involved in both clinical and mechanical research studies involving the rotator cuff tears, reverse total shoulder arthroplasty, and distal biceps tendon tears. Dr. Schmidt's research involves a multidisciplinary team of orthopaedic surgeons, bio and mechanical engineers, fellows and residents. Biomechanical investigations are conducted through the orthopaedic engineering laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh. Past and Current studies Dr. Schmidt has worked on are listed below.

Current Projects

  • Treatment of Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tears

  • Defining the Anatomy of the Superior Capsule

  • Effect of Biceps Reattachment Location on Moment Arm and Range of Motion

  • Distal Biceps Tendon: Biomechanical Evaluation of Long and Short Head Orientation during Dual Head Repair

  • Healing of the Distal Bicep Tendon: Clinical and MRI Assessment
